Since Simplicity Air was founded based on our service and repair in the mobile industry, it stands to reason that this would be one of our contributing strengths. In fact, the name Simplicity Air was derived from the simple approach to problem solving by the company’s founder. With decades of experience finding simple solutions for complex problems, we pride ourselves on being very different from our competitors. Understanding our customers’ business and their challenges allows us to provide solutions to those challenges better. With experience in many different applications, it allows us to take solutions we have introduced in other applications and apply them elsewhere.

Approaches

Universal Design

We always attempt to utilize “Standard” components in our designs including blowers, coils, expansion valves, driers, sensors and hoses. Many cabin spaces are equal in size and require a similar performing system; however, the configuration may need to be slightly different. This increases the volume of standard components, lowering costs and improving delivery since they are common components. By using verified components, this also provides predictability when combining components together from a performance and quality perspective. This allows us to deliver the best quality product quickly and at the best price. 

Space

Space is a premium in every vehicle, and additional unnecessary weight only decreases the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. Our focus is to utilize new materials and practices to improve efficiency within the same space or less.  By understanding the system at such an intimate level, it allows us to work on the most finite details within the system.  

Servicability

Our HVAC systems are designed with convenient access to components, ensuring smooth and effective routine maintenance, repairs, and replacements. When we design products, we always consider the cost of time to service our equipment. Reducing the tools required by selecting similar hardware reduces maintenance costs and minimizes warranty repairs if they do exist. Our designs provide a lower cost of ownership.

Mechanical Engineering

From conception and throughout the design phase of any project, our thought process includes standardization of components, reduction of components, reduction of manufacturing processes, assembly time, installation time and serviceability to reduce overall life cycle cost. We also consider the environmental impacts to minimize waste and use recyclable materials. With a wide range of products available, we can customize a solution to meet your exact needs. We are problem solvers by nature with innovative thinking at the heart of our engineering experience.  

Electrical Engineering

Along with designing standard components such as harnesses and PCB’s, our electrical engineering team are specialists in CAN, Serial and LIN communications. Many of the systems we design integrate controls and communication networks to reduce wiring and provide a more user-friendly experience for the operator. Our facility’s engineering room includes the latest in high voltage testing equipment for systems up to 10Kw where we can test fully operational high voltage systems for electric vehicles. Check out our customizable off the shelf HVAC control system for both 12 and 24VDC systems. The Clima-Tech System allows us to customize the operation of components to suit your exact needs with simple selection in the software.

Simulation Testing

Using simulation data saves time and resources and creates a visualization to show stakeholders how a system is intended to work, where issues may arise and where improvements may be made. As demands become higher for performance, energy consumption needs to be reduced and space becomes less available, it is important to use technology to improve every component in a climate system. Simulation software, along with decades of experience, allows us to design a complete fact derived system you can be confident will do the job way before the product gets installed in the vehicle.  

Operational Abilities

Order Processing

Through the complete process, from sales order to production, our process-driven approach ensures all details of an order are trackable and managed to ensure consistency and dependability that the products our customer’s order will be delivered when needed and will include precisely what is expected.  

Production System Software

Our custom production software is a crucial part of our internal process. Following the required dates set by the customer, the system automates the process following phases throughout the production process. Jobs are assigned to parts pickers and assembly workers accordingly, and the system tracks their time, tracks their qty built, produces serial number decals automatically, pops up work instructions automatically, and prints packaging labels for all components. Its capability to generate comprehensive production data supports continuous improvement, enabling us to maintain our reputation for delivering on time and high-quality components.

Software Production

At Simplicity Air, controls and software are a significant part of our day to day. Our custom production software uses a part number to identify the proper software based on the BOM for that device or kit. It allows production workers to install software onto controllers easily, and the system does a “self-check” to ensure that the correct software is installed successfully, providing unmatched quality assurance that the right software is loaded every time! 

Work Instructions

With over 500 active manufactured items, it’s imperative to have extensive work instructions for our production team to follow. Basic procedures are well documented for repetitive steps, and specific details are available for every job automatically when they start the building process, which ensures the production staff have all of the latest information and instructions with no paper copies that become outdated. The easy step-by-step instructions use exploded views and photographs where necessary. Assembly workers follow a page-by-page approach to ensure that after each page, a new step is taken reducing errors in determining what step they are on in the assembly process.

Service

Simplicity Air’s service department does both installation and repair on all types of commercially used vehicles. Our focus is on preventative maintenance of all types of equipment to keep systems operating when you need them. Our services do include mobile repairs for off-road equipment typically within a 62 Mile (100 Km) range. The service shop includes the latest in technologies and our veteran service staff have the experience to solve any climate control challenge.

Kitting

Kitting is a significant way of reducing the time needed to procure, receive and handle multiple components instead of only one part number. By kitting complete systems or developing kits that are designed for different stations on your assembly line, you can reduce losses of components, cut time spent internally picking components, cut time spent procuring multiple components and reduce receiving time. Since time is a significant expense in any company, kitting has significant benefits to an organization and efficiency. We have a specialized process with checks and balances to ensure that every kit contains the exact number of components as needed and checked off on the checklist we send with each kit.  

Warehouse Efficiency

Simplicity Air utilizes many unique approaches to warehousing inventory. The process starts at receiving inventory, every part of which is labelled upon entry for FIFO purposes.  Our use of Vertical Storage Solutions transforms our warehouse management and maximizes vertical warehouse space, providing streamlined access to many of the over 6000 SKUs of raw materials and finished goods we carry. Maintaining a well-organized and clean warehouse area is essential to maximize efficiency, reduce handling times, and enhance operational efficiency.

Hose Assembly Line

Managing hose assemblies for many companies is a challenge. At Simplicity Air hose assemblies is one of our innovations. Whether it be one hose for a replacement or hundreds of hoses the process is identical. Our innovation starts with the storage of hose reels using our vertical storage unit. From there the hose is cut using a specially designed air operated guillotine which doesn't produce any loose material that could contaminate the hose assembly. Aft this, to our crimping machine with precision tools to crimp hoses to meet the manufacturers specifications for a leak free connection. Next step is wrapping the hose in a myriad of optional sheathing and insulation to provide protection from chafing, reflection of heat and insulation to maintain performance. The packaging of hoses is always a challenge when they sit on a shelf or are shipped to customers and our solution to this is the tying machine to coil the hose in a tight roll and then shrink wrapping the hose to keep out any dust and dirt from collecting on the hose making it look like brand new no matter the environment its headed for. Allow with this our assemblies all contain caps, seals, and an identification label both on the hose and the packaging. This seamless operation allows us to manufacture hoses at the highest standard in the industry. 

Changes Coming To The Market

R1234YF

As the industry shifts towards newer refrigerants such as R-1234yf, it’s necessary to employ new technologies to overcome its reduced cooling capabilities. One of those technologies is the use of an internal heat exchanger or IHX. With the use of an IHX, our systems offer improved energy efficiency, enhanced cooling capabilities, and environmental compliance.

PTC Heaters / EV Units

The rise of electric vehicles necessitates advanced climate control systems that align with commercial vehicle EV powertrain requirements. Our EV units feature PTC heater technology, which offers efficient, rapid heating capabilities without overtaxing the vehicle's electrical system. These innovative systems ensure reliability and performance in demanding environments while optimizing energy use, making them an ideal solution for the growing commercial vehicle EV market as well as low voltage systems for engine off applications.
