Mechanical Engineering Technologist

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

We take our extensive field experience and apply that knowledge to design systems with serviceability, economics, and new technology to make our customer's products better. Simplicity Air Ltd has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineering Technologist. We are looking for experienced people who want to find a challenging and rewarding role where they learn something new daily and impact the company. The Mechanical Engineering Technologist is responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical components, machinery, and equipment using applied knowledge of engineering principles. They will analyze and design the structural and mechanical components and assemblies that support our GRIP and Patriot products as well as the mechanical assemblies that house our HVAC products. The Mechanical Engineering team collaborates with Controls Systems Engineering on overall system design and integration and supports production.

Job Duties:

  • Mechanical design and drafting of sheet metal parts and assemblies for HVAC products.
  • Mechanical design and drafting of structural and mechanical components and assemblies for power transmission and mounting on vehicles.
  • All mechanical design done using Solidworks.
  • Design, develop, and test mechanical systems and components for HVAC products.
  • Specification and drafting of hoses for air conditioning refrigerant, engine coolant and other fluids.
  • Product testing and documentation.
  • Creation and maintenance of work instructions for production builds.
  • Root cause analysis and resolution for supplier and internal quality issues using the NCR and SCAR tools.
  • Perform calculations and simulations to validate design concepts.
  • Conduct research to determine mechanical systems' feasibility, design, operation, and performance.
  • Create detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Perform calculations and simulations to analyze and optimize mechanical designs.
  • Follow all relevant processes and procedures.
  • Log project time in Zo-Ho so it may be applied/billed accurately.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Production, Marketing, Sales, Purchasing, IT, etc.) to ensure project success.
  • Ensure that designs are safe, efficient, effective, and able to be manufactured.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • College degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct work experience with production systems, regulations, guidelines, and associated standards.
  • Direct knowledge of manufacturing methodologies.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks and other 3-D imaging software is essential.
  • Ability to integrate new technologies into machines to ensure the organization meets its high-quality goals and objectives.
  • Ability to converse and collaborate with multiple departments spanning multiple disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of risk analysis and relevant legislative compliance.
  • Excellent grasp of diverse, fundamental mechanical engineering concepts and relationships.
  • Advanced mathematical skills, such as calculus and differential equations.
  • Practical experience with risk management, product testing, capability studies, and control plans.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed capable of multi-tasking, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to create and review technical documentation, including project plans, test procedures, and design documents.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify problems and propose solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.

Futures Program - Technician's Helper

Job Type: Full-time (short-term)

Futures Program – Details

  • Open to youth who have completed high school and are considering a trades school/apprenticeship.
  • Applicants must submit a short video showcasing their interest in a Trades career and how the program will benefit their path forward.
  • The program candidate will be paid a competitive hourly wage under the title of "Technician’s Helper".

  • This role will expose the candidate to all aspects of Mobile Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning Service, and Idle Management systems in relation to the specialized services delivered through Simplicity Air. This will involve working alongside Simplicity Air Technicians and gaining valuable skills and understanding from decades of hands-on and learned experience.

  • Individuals in this role will provide regular feedback to showcase their development within the program.

  • On-the-job hours worked within the Futures Program may also apply toward apprenticeship hours for the following: Agricultural Equipment Technician, Automotive Service Technician, Powered Lift Truck Technician, Truck and Coach Technician, and Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician.

  • Candidates completing the program successfully and with a record of high performance will also be eligible to receive a starter tool kit, up to $1500.00 value, to benefit their future training/education.
